The Bushoong dynasty, of the Kuba-related people, developed a masking tradition to function in leadership context. The three principal royal masks include: Mashambooy, Ngaady a Mwaash and Bwoon, which together define the total political structure with its roles and its status (Vansina 1968:22).The three masks may dance separately at royal initiation and funeral ceremonies, or perform together when portraying the dynastic myth of Woot the legendry founding of Kuba nation (Cornet 1982:256).
